Merchant Ratings Horsemanship Clinic

A fantastic 3 days, food was unbelievably good, like going to a great restaurant. Larry Hannon is so talented with both horse and rider. We learned so much and look forward to doing it again. He is never critical and does not yell when you make mistakes, so patient, natural instructor, love the one-on-one instruction, the only way to learn. We improved so much and so did the horses. The hosts, Sharon and Dennis, are wonderful, their home is beautiful with an unbelievable view. The hot tub and pool were a welcome attraction at the end of a long, hot day. Dennis is a fabulous cook. Sharon made everyone feel at home and did everything she could to make this a great learning experience as well as a mini-vacation.

Larry was born and raised on a large cow ranch in the Osage Country of Oklahoma. His father was ranch foreman, and Larry was horseback at an early age. By the time he was a freshman in high school he was starting colts for the ranch remuda under the watchful eyes of his dad and the head cowboy.

Larry attended Oklahoma State University earning a B.S. in Animal Science and a M.S. in Veterinary Parasitology & Microbiology. His emphasis was in the Production/Nutrition Option, and studying the diseases and parasites of livestock.

He served in the US Air Force as a Veterinary Technician and Field Medic during the Vietnam War. He earned many citations while serving his country, and received an Honorable Discharge.

He spent six years as a cooperative Extension Agent in Western Nebraska, serving on the Nebraska State 4-H Horse Committee four of those years. He served as ring steward, arena superintendent, and assistant manager of the state horse show. He also served as AKSARBEN Horse Show ring steward, assistant manager, and manager.

He has judged numerous 4-H Youth and Open Class horse shows in Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. He continues to judge shows and give private lessons and clinics in horsemanship.

Larry is a member of the AQHA as a breeder of ‘Good All Around Using Horses’. He is also a member of the American Stock Horse Association, Stock Horse of Texas, and The Savvy Horseman Organization. He continues to start his own colts, and offer them for sale to the public. He strives to match his horses with the right horseman, be it accomplished rider, novice, or youth.

He spent 18 years as a Technical Service/Sales Representative in the Agricultural Chemical Industry, and has a keen business sense. He is a professional in every sense of the word, and his ‘Word’ is his bond.

Larry and his wife Sharon live west of Crowell, TX where they operate the Longhorn Ranch RV Park, and Larry conducts his Rough Country Equestrian Trail Rides & Guide Service on the 12,000 Ac Teacup Mountain Wildlife Management Area.
